A 15-member team has been announced under the captaincy of Ayush Mhatre for the World Cup to be held in Zimbabwe and Namibia. This team includes many talented players. Along with Ayush Mhatre, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has also been included in this team. Vaibhav Suryavanshi has scored a total of 7 centuries this year.

Amit Paganis (1998)
Amit Paganis captained India in the first ICC Under-19 World Cup in 1998. Paganis, a highly respected batsman in Mumbai’s age-group cricket, managed to score more than 5000 runs in domestic cricket. He was famous for hitting sixes to Shane Warne during the India tour, but despite all his talent, he could not represent India at the senior international level.
Mohammad Kaif (2000)
Kaif led India to its first Under-19 World Cup title in 2000. After this he established himself as a reliable player in the senior Indian team. Due to his excellent fielding, calm nature under pressure and ability to win matches, he remained an important member of Team India for a long time. Currently he is a popular cricket commentator.
Parthiv Patel (2002)
Parthiv Patel, who captained India in the 2002 Under-19 World Cup, made his debut in the senior team at the age of just 17. He had a long international and domestic career as a wicketkeeper-batsman. He is currently associated with IPL franchise Gujarat Titans as a coach/mentor.
Dinesh Karthik (2004)
Dinesh Karthik, who led the Under-19 team in 2004, took India to the semi-finals. Although he could not become a regular wicketkeeper after the arrival of MS Dhoni, he represented India in all three formats. His career shined again after the second innings in IPL and T20I. He is now part of the coaching staff at Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Ravikant Shukla (2006)
India finished runner-up in the 2006 Under-19 World Cup under Shukla’s captaincy. This tournament was challenging for him personally. Despite playing domestic cricket for Uttar Pradesh, he could not make it to the senior international team.
Virat Kohli (2008)
Virat Kohli, the most successful international player in this list so far, led India to its second Under-19 World Cup title in 2008. He became one of the most successful batsmen in cricket history and captained India in all formats. Unfortunately for those who came after him, many were judged on Kohli’s standards but no player could live up to him.

Ashok Menariya (2010)
Menaria, who captained India in 2010, was a left-arm spinner and useful batsman. The team was eliminated in the quarter-finals. He played 96 first-class matches for Rajasthan and Haryana and had a steady career in domestic cricket.
Unmukt Chand (2012)
Unmukt Chand, who won India’s third Under-19 World Cup in 2012, scored an unbeaten century in the final. However, he could not repeat the success like Virat Kohli at the senior level. Later he chose to go to America and play cricket.
Vijay Zol (2014)
Zol, a left-handed batsman, shot to fame in 2011 by scoring a brilliant 451 runs in a Cooch Behar Under-19 match. After good success in age-group bilateral matches, he captained India at the 2014 Under-19 World Cup, but the team was eliminated in the quarter-finals. Despite early promise, he was not able to translate his youthful success into a major domestic or international career.
Ishaan Kishan (2016)
Kishan led India to the finals in the 2016 Under-19 World Cup, where the team finished runner-up, losing to West Indies. He later broke into the senior Indian team and established himself as an aggressive wicketkeeper-batsman, and recently returned to the senior men’s T20I squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Prithvi Shaw (2018)
Shaw led India to its fourth Under-19 World Cup title in 2018. Considered one of India’s most promising batting talents at that time, Shaw represented the senior national team and played extensively in domestic cricket and the IPL. After years of controversy and off-field troubles, he is trying to rebuild his career, starting with his return to the T20 league with Delhi Capitals.
Priyam Garg (2020)
Garg captained India at the 2020 Under-19 World Cup, where the team finished runner-up after losing to Bangladesh in the final. A left-handed batsman, he has since been a part of India’s domestic circuit and IPL.
Yash Dhull (2022)
Yash Dhull, a star of the Delhi domestic cricket system, helped India win the 2022 tournament by defeating England in the final. His excellent performance continued for some time after this, but since then he has got less chances, and he mostly plays in the Delhi Premier League.

Uday Saharan (2024)
Uday Saharan captained India in the 2024 Under-19 World Cup, and led the team to the final. A technically sound middle-order batsman, he emerged as one of India’s most consistent performers in the tournament. Like Dhull, he too has been fighting for more opportunities ever since.

Ayush Mhatre (2026)
Another name in the list of promising players, Mumbai youngster Ayush Mhatre is being considered as the next big name in Indian cricket. He has impressed in his 13 T20 matches so far, scoring 565 runs at an average of 56.50 and a strike-rate of 175.46.
