Virat Kohli will face Railways in Vijay Hazare Trophy from this day, leaving Sachin Tendulkar behind with 16 thousand runs.
New Delhi. Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) President Rohan Jaitley said on Monday that veteran Indian batsman Virat Kohli will play Delhi’s Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Railways on January 6 at the BCCI Center of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had made it mandatory for all players awarded central contracts to participate in at least two matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. However, Kohli also wants to play the third match this month to prepare for the home series against New Zealand.
DDCA President Rohan Jaitley said, “Right now, he is playing. Virat has given his availability for three matches.” Kohli was in excellent form in the first two matches for Delhi. They scored 131 and 77 runs respectively. During this period, he also set a record for completing 16,000 runs in the fewest innings in List A cricket. Kohli achieved this milestone in his 330th innings and left behind the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar had achieved this feat in 391 innings.
A BCCI source said that the Indian ODI team will reach Vadodara by January 8 for the New Zealand series but Kohli can reach here a day earlier for practice. The three-match ODI series against New Zealand will start on this ground on January 11.
