Virat Kohli’s flamboyant run surges ticket sales for Vizag ODI
New Delhi: Virat Kohli has been in a fabulous form in the ongoing ODI series against South Africa as the star batter smashed back-to-back centuries. His hundred in the first ODI helped India start off the series on a winning not but his century in Raipur was in vain as India went down in the encounter making the third match a potential finale.
Meanwhile ahead of the Vizag ODI, Kohli’s current flamboyant run and participation has helped soar the ticket prices for the final match, which otherwise looked cold. As per a report in the Indian Express, the initial ticket sales for the ODI match in Visakhapatnam was not that great which made the Andhra Cricket Association sell tickets over the counter.
Tickets sold out in minutes after Ranchi ton
Bit after Kohli’s century in Ranchi on November 30, tickets were sold out in minutes after the sale went online on December 1 and December 3. The price ranged from Rs 1,200 to 18,000, but nothing remained unsold.
Y Venkatesh, who is part of Andhra Cricket Association’s Media and Operations team, said that: ‘The first phase of tickets went on sale on November 28. The response wasn’t good. But a day before the second phase went on sale, Kohli scored that hundred at Ranchi. That changed everything. All of us know he has an outstanding record here so when the second and third phase tickets went online, they vanished in minutes.’
Just two days ahead of the match, people thronged to the airport just to catch a glimpse of the superstar when he landed. The wait turned longer because of the delay in flight from Raipur but just to see the queue getting longer and longer. The fans were not at all affected by the delay in flight for hours, with scenes not that different at the Raipur airport either.
