Virender Sehwag’s big claim: Yashasvi Jaiswal will be regular in ODI after Rohit’s retirement, the way will open in Team India

New Delhi . Former veteran batsman Virender Sehwag has given a big statement regarding Indian Cricket Team’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Sehwag believes that after Rohit Sharma’s retirement from One Day Cricket, the way can be cleared for the opening slot in the Indian team and in that situation Yashasvi Jaiswal will start getting continuous opportunities.

Currently, due to the absence of Virat Kohli in the ongoing ODI series between India and Afghanistan, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been included in the team. Kohli is out of this series due to a hamstring injury suffered during the final of IPL 2026, due to which the selectors included Jaiswal in the squad. However, he has not yet got a chance in the playing eleven because the top order of the team is already considered to be set.

Virender Sehwag said that currently there is a lot of competition for the opening slot in the Indian team. Along with being the captain, Shubman Gill is playing an important role in the top order, while Rohit Sharma is also a part of the team. In such a situation, it is not easy to make space for young players. But Sehwag believes that this situation will not last long.

He clarified that as soon as Rohit Sharma retires from ODI cricket, there will be a big change in the opening combination for Team India. At that time, Yashasvi Jaiswal is likely to get regular opportunities in ODI and white-ball cricket. Sehwag also said that Jaiswal’s batting style and aggression makes him a strong option in the limited overs format.

Sehwag also hinted that players like Ruturaj Gaikwad could also be strong contenders for the opening position. But if the team adopts the strategy of three openers, then Jaiswal will definitely be in the race for selection. According to him, the next phase in Indian cricket will be the emergence of young players, where talents like Jaiswal can play an important role.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has attracted the attention of selectors with his performances in domestic cricket and IPL in recent times. His technique as well as his ability to score fast runs makes him compatible with modern cricket. For this reason he is being seen as a strong option for the future.

  • At present, Team India’s focus is on the current series and upcoming big tournaments, but experts also have their eyes fixed on the future opening lineup. This statement of Sehwag has once again intensified the discussion on the transition phase of Indian cricket.
