Following the complaint received from the Election Commission, Delhi Police has registered a case at Shaheen Bagh police station on charges of voter ID card registration through fake documents. This matter is related to assembly constituency number 54 Okhla. Police have registered a case under sections 336 (forgery for the purpose of cheating) and 340 (presenting forged documents as genuine) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Action on Election Commission’s complaint
In this case, a complaint was lodged by Election Registration Officer (ERO) Vinod Kumar. The complaint leveled serious allegations against four citizens, saying that these persons used fake documents for fresh registration of Voter ID card and change of address. The Election Commission termed this act as deep fraud and demanded immediate action.
Disclosure of fake documents
The complaint alleges that the four individuals submitted the following types of forged documents:
- Three people presented fake electricity bills.
- A person used a tampered Aadhaar card.
Using these fake documents, attempts were made to add names to the voter list or change the address.
Police investigation continues
Delhi Police said that investigation is going on in this case to identify the accused and their network. The police are also trying to find out which associates or gangs may be involved in this fraud.
