Voting today for 11 Rajya Sabha seats, results will come by evening –
Tezzbuzz Desk- Voting is to be held today for 11 Rajya Sabha seats in three states of the country. These seats include 5 from Bihar, 4 from Odisha and 2 from Haryana. Voting will start at 11 am and after counting the results will also be declared today itself.
This time the election process is going on for a total of 37 Rajya Sabha seats across the country. Of these, 26 candidates have already been elected unopposed, while the contest on the remaining seats has become interesting.
Many big leaders have already been elected unopposed
Many big leaders have already been sent to the upper house of Parliament without any contest in the Rajya Sabha elections. These include prominent names like Sharad Pawar, Ramdas Athawale, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Thambi Durai, Vinod Tawde and Babul Supriyo. However, the political equations on the seats of Bihar, Odisha and Haryana remain quite interesting.
The victory of NDA candidates on four out of five seats in Bihar is considered almost certain. From JDU and BJP, Nitish Kumar, Ramnath Thakur, Nitin Naveen and Shivam Kumar are said to be in strong positions.
The real contest is on the fifth seat, where there is a tough fight between NDA’s Upendra Kushwaha and Grand Alliance-backed AD Singh.
The Grand Alliance has the support of 35 MLAs, while 41 votes are needed for victory. In such a situation, his position is considered strong with the support of five MLAs of AIMIM and one MLA of BSP.
NDA hopes that some MLAs of the Grand Alliance may do cross-voting. The stance of six Congress MLAs and BSP MLA is also being monitored. In such a situation, the result of the fifth seat is believed to depend on cross-voting.
The contest on four seats in Odisha is also interesting. It is believed that BJP and BJD can win two seats each.
BJP has 79 MLAs in the state assembly and also has the support of three independent MLAs, due to which its two seats are considered almost certain. To win the third seat he will need additional votes.
Whereas BJD has 48 MLAs, due to which one of its seats is considered confirmed. If we get the support of 14 MLAs of Congress and one MLA of CPM, then the party can win the second seat also. There is said to be a tough contest between BJP supported Dilip Ray and BJD on the fourth seat.
There are total 90 members in Haryana Assembly. BJP has 48 MLAs and also has the support of two INLD MLAs and three independent MLAs. In such a situation, the victory of its candidate Sanjay Bhatia is considered almost certain.
Congress has 37 MLAs and its candidate Karamveer Bodh is also in a strong position. However, the contest has become interesting with the entry of independent candidate Satish Nandal. He would need additional votes to win, which is not possible without cross-voting.
After voting in Bihar, Odisha and Haryana, the results will be declared by this evening. Political parties are keeping an eye on these results due to the possibility of cross-voting on many seats. In such a situation, surprising results may also emerge at some places.
