Waqf Act Update: Will Waqf land become government? The government gave this special information to those who could not register.
News India Live, Digital Desk: These days, from the political corridors of the country to the tea stalls, only one issue is being debated the most and that is the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. The government is bringing a new law to manage Waqf properties, regarding which there is continuous discussion going on in the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). The most important thing in this new law is “Registration”. The government wants that the details of every Waqf property should be recorded on a central portal. But, there was a great fear in the minds of Muslim society and people associated with Waqf. That fear is that “if for some reason we are not able to register our property within the deadline, will that land be taken out of our hands?” Will that land become government? It is very important for you to know the clarification that has come from the government on this today. What is the rule of deadline? According to the proposed bill, 6 months time can be given to register Waqf properties on the portal. The rule says that if you do not give details of your property within this time limit, it will not be considered as Waqf property. But, there is both a “catch” and a “relief”. Who will get the exemption? (Exemption Rule) During the JPC meeting, the government representatives have made it clear that their aim is not to grab anyone’s land, but to correct the records. The government said that if any person or organization is not able to register by the deadline, and has a “concrete and true reason” (sufficient cause) for the delay, then it can be given relief. That is, if you prove that you are late due to some genuine compulsion (like illness, paperwork or legal issues), then your land will not be taken away directly. DM (Collector) will have the remote. The real power will be with the District Collector i.e. DM (DM). If the property is not registered after the deadline, then the DM will decide whether the land belongs to Waqf or government. DM will keep the “Revenue Record” of that land. Will see. If the papers are solid, then there is no need to worry. But, if you are deliberately negligent and do not provide any proof, then the property may go to the government account or a dispute may arise over it.
