War to save dollar: America trying to break BRICS, India trapped?
New Delhi. In international politics, tension between America and BRICS is continuously increasing. The recent instability in Iran and US policies have affected the strategic position of many countries including India. If we look deeply at the policies of US President Donald Trump, it becomes clear that his aim is not only to put pressure on Iran, but also to weaken the BRICS group and maintain the dollar’s dominance in global trade.
American pressure on Iran
The Trump administration is threatening military intervention in the name of supporting protesters in Iran. Besides, it is also trying to create economic pressure by warning the countries doing business with Iran of 25% tariff. This step clearly shows that America wants to strengthen its hold on BRICS countries through Iran.
What is the impact on India?
India, which has had diplomatic relations with Iran for 75 years, is under pressure amid this US policy. Although the tariffs will not have a huge impact on India directly, India is preparing to limit trade with Iran in the current financial year. This move could create a challenging situation for both Indian foreign policy and economic balance.
BRICS summit and India’s role
This year India is hosting the BRICS 2026 summit. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said at the conference that India will emphasize the need for intergovernmental organizations capable of facing global shocks. Diplomats from Iran and Russia will also be present at the summit. At a time when Trump is taking a tough stance on Iran, it has become important for India to maintain diplomatic balance.
Trump and BRICS: Strategy to save dollar
The BRICS grouping, which includes Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa and most recently Iran, is promoting a trade model not dependent on the US dollar. A cross border payment system was discussed at the Rio de Janeiro summit in 2025, which would allow member countries to trade in their own currencies. This is a direct threat to America, and Trump’s policies are considered an attempt to stop it.
India has already faced American pressure for buying oil from Russia. Now it will have to balance both its Iran policy and leadership in BRICS. With Iran being a BRICS member and US military-economic pressure, this year is going to prove to be diplomatically very sensitive for India.
