News India Live, Digital Desk: High blood pressure is no longer a problem only for elderly people, but young women are also falling prey to it. BP levels in women can suddenly increase due to hormonal changes, pregnancy and menopause. Recognizing these signs in time can save you from a life-threatening situation.

1. Heaviness and severe pain in the head (Frequent Headaches)

If you often feel heaviness or severe pain in the back of the head, it can be a sign of high BP. This pain usually occurs more in the morning.

2. Extreme Fatigue

Feeling tired all the time even without doing any heavy work is a common symptom of high BP. When blood pressure is high, the heart has to work harder to pump, causing the body to tire quickly.

3. Shortness of Breath

Shortness of breath while climbing stairs or walking a little indicates high BP (Pulmonary Hypertension). Women often consider this as weight gain or lack of stamina, which can be dangerous.

4. Blurred Vision

High blood pressure can damage the blood vessels of the eyes. If you suddenly start seeing blurred or there is darkness in front of your eyes, get your BP checked immediately.

5. Chest Pain & Palpitations

Sudden nervousness or feeling of uncontrolled heartbeat are serious symptoms of high BP. In women, it may resemble symptoms of menopause, so it is mandatory to consult a doctor.

Main causes of high blood pressure in women

Hormonal changes: Consumption of contraceptive pills can increase BP.

Pregnancy: Increased blood pressure during pregnancy (Preeclampsia) is risky for both mother and child.

Menopause: Due to falling level of estrogen hormone, the arteries start hardening, due to which BP increases.

Stress and incomplete sleep: Due to dual responsibilities of home and office, stress is also a big factor.

Prevention Tips

Reduce salt: Limit the amount of salt in your diet (less than 5 grams per day).

Increase potassium: Eat potassium-rich foods like bananas, spinach and sweet potatoes.

remain active: Walk or do yoga for at least 30 minutes daily.

Regular checkup: After the age of 30, measure BP at least once a month.
