Was Donald Trump present during the Mar-a-Lago shooting? Here’s what we know so far

A tense security incident unfolded early Sunday morning at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, when an armed intruder was shot and killed after breaching the secure perimeter. One of the first questions people asked following the episode was whether the President was present at the time of the shooting.

Where Was Donald Trump During the Incident?

According to official reports, President Trump was not at Mar-a-Lago when the security breach occurred. At the time the armed man attempted to enter the estate, Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were both at the White House in Washington, D.C.. The shooting took place around 1:30 a.m. local time on Sundayand there was no indication that Trump was in Florida or near the property when law enforcement responded.

Mar-a-Lago, located in West Palm Beach, is one of the President’s private residences and often functions as a weekend retreat. However, this incident occurred while he was in the nation’s capital, significantly reducing any immediate risk to him.

What Happened at the Scene

Officials said an unidentified man in his early 20s approached the north gate of Mar-a-Lago carrying what appeared to be a shotgun and a fuel can. Secret Service agents assigned to protect the President — along with a Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputy — confronted the suspect, who was shot and later pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the intruder or a confirmed motive, and investigations are ongoing.
