Jammu: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and senior National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah narrowly escaped an attack at a wedding ceremony on Wednesday night. A 63-year-old man tried to shoot at him with a pistol, but his security personnel took quick action and caught the attacker. The incident took place during a marriage ceremony in Greater Kailash area of Jammu.
According to the police, the accused has been identified as Kamal Singh Jamwal (63), resident of Purani Mandi, Jammu. He managed to enter the function and came very close to Farooq Abdullah. He took out his pistol and fired, but Abdullah’s close protection team reacted quickly and diverted the bullet, thereby averting a major accident.

Claim of 20 year old rivalry
Police have taken accused Kamal Singh Jamwal into custody and started interrogation. Preliminary investigation revealed that he had a personal grudge against Farooq Abdullah for the last 20 years. He told the police that he had been planning this attack for a long time and was looking for the right opportunity. Police have seized the pistol from the spot.
Case of attempt to murder registered
Jammu Police has registered a case under various sections in this serious matter. A case of attempt to murder has been registered against the accused at Gangyal police station under section 109 of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS). Apart from this, a case has also been registered under Section 3/25 of the Arms Act for possessing and using illegal weapons. The police are investigating the matter thoroughly so that the entire conspiracy behind the attack can be found out.
