Was the Brown University shooter Claudio Valente acting alone? What authorities have confirmed so far

Law enforcement authorities have confirmed that the suspect responsible for the shooting at Brown University acted alone, based on the investigation conducted so far.

Providence Police Chief Oscar L. Perez Jr. stated that there is no evidence suggesting the involvement of any additional individuals in the attack. Investigators reviewed physical evidence, witness accounts, and materials recovered from the suspect, all of which point to a lone assailant.

Shooter Found Dead, Investigation Continues

The suspect, identified as Claudio Valente, a 48-year-old former Brown University student and Portuguese national, was found dead in Salem, New Hampshire, after taking his own life, according to police.

Authorities located an abandoned vehicle believed to be connected to the suspect. A subsequent search led to the discovery of his body. Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha said the suspect was found with a satchel, two firearms, and evidence that matched the Brown University crime scene.

Officials said these findings reinforce the conclusion that the shooter acted independently.

No Evidence of Accomplices

Police confirmed that there are no indications of coordination, assistance, or planning involving other individuals. Chief Perez said the shooter acted alone, and investigators have not identified any co-conspirators or ongoing threats linked to the incident.
