Starc has overtaken Wasim to become the highest wicket-taker among left-arm fast bowlers in Test cricket. He currently has 418 wickets in 102 Test matches. Wasim has taken 414 wickets in 104 matches in his career. The 35-year-old Starc created history in England’s second Ashes Test against Australia at the Gabba. He took six wickets for 75 runs in 20 overs in the first innings of the day-night Test.

Akram wrote on social media platform X, “Super stark. Proud of you mate. Your hard work sets you apart. It was only a matter of time before you broke my record. I am happy to present this record to you. Keep up the good work and reach new heights in your brilliant career.” Starc took the world record by dismissing Harry Brook (31) at the Gabba. Starc and Akram are tied with Chaminda Wass (335), Tim Southee (317) and Zaheer Khan (317) in the list of most Test wickets by left-arm bowlers.

England scored 334 runs in 76.2 overs in the first innings at the Gabba. Veteran batsman Joe Root remained unbeaten on 138 runs. This is his first century on Australian soil. He put on a crucial 70-run partnership for the last wicket with No. 11 batsman Jofra Archer. Root faced 206 balls and hit 15 fours and a six. Archer scored 38 off 36 balls, the highest Test score of his career. His innings included two sixes and two fours. After Root, opener Jack Crowley (76 off 93 balls) scored the most runs. Ben Duckett and Olly Pope remained unbeaten.
