WATCH, BPL | Kyle Mayers goes sky-high and dispatches Topley into orbit
Towering sixes are a staple in the shortest format of cricket, but only a select few players unleash sheer power to elevate the game. Kyle Mayers was one such force against the Sylhet Strikers, where he unleashed a monstrous shot off Reece Topley and sent the ball soaring onto the stadium roof.
The Sylhet Strikers endured a shaky start as Rony Talukdar departed for a duck. However, Ariful Haque’s gritty 36 off 29 helped them post a modest 125. For Fortune Barishal, Jahandad Khan and Rishad Hossain were instrumental with the ball, each claiming three wickets to dismantle the Strikers’ batting lineup.
Barishal’s chase also began with a setback as Tamim Iqbal fell for a golden duck. But Kyle Mayers took charge, smashing a brilliant 59 off 31 balls, featuring five fours and four sixes. Among those sixes was a colossal hit that left the crowd in awe.
In the seventh over, on the fourth delivery, Reece Topley delivered a length ball at 132 kmph, angling towards the pads. Positioned perfectly in the slot, Mayers cleared his front leg and unleashed a powerful strike over deep square leg. The ball rocketed off his bat, soaring onto the stadium roof, showcasing the Caribbean’s brute force.
Brute Force!
