This GT bowler created a stir in SMAT before IPL, created a new history by taking 6 wickets

Young fast bowler Arshad Khan, who plays for Gujarat Titans in the IPL, has created a stir in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025. Playing for Madhya Pradesh, this 27-year-old bowler recorded the best bowling spell in the history of the tournament by taking 6 wickets against Chandigarh. Due to which Madhya Pradesh defeated Chandigarh by 7 wickets in this match.

Yes, earlier this record was in the name of T. Ravi Teja of Hyderabad and Arjan Nagwaswala of Gujarat, who had achieved the figure of 6/13 in October 2023. And before that in 2015, D.S. Punia had recorded 6/14. But now Arshad Khan has created a new history by leaving all these records behind by giving only 9 runs and taking 6 wickets.

In this 96th match of the league stage of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 played on Saturday (6 December), Arshad Khan troubled the Chandigarh batsmen by swinging the ball from the very beginning. In the first over itself, he sent opener Arjun Azad (0) and captain Shivam Bhambri (0) to the pavilion without opening the account. After this, Nikhil Thakur (4) was dismissed on the last ball of his second over.

Arshad returned in the death overs and completed his historic spell by taking three wickets in the 19th over. Due to which, while batting first, only Manan Vohra (43 runs in 52 balls) was seen struggling from Chandigarh side and the team could score only 134 runs.

Chasing the target of 134 runs, Madhya Pradesh got off to a bad start with the first two wickets falling early. But after this, Harsh Gawali (74*) and Harpreet Singh (48) made a brilliant 105-run partnership and made the match one-sided. The result was that Madhya Pradesh won the match by 7 wickets with 36 balls remaining.

This is a big boost for Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans before the IPL 2026 season. Arshad Khan was bought by Gujarat for Rs 1.3 crore in the mega auction of IPL 2025 and was also retained before this season. Although Arshad has not got many opportunities in the IPL and till now he has only 12 wickets in 19 matches, but his performance in SMAT shows that Gujarat can give him a bigger role this time.
