WATCH: Hat-trick hero Mujeeb Ur Rahman guides Afghanistan to series win against West Indies

Mystery spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman produced a sensational spell to headline Afghanistan’s series-clinching 39-run victory over West Indies at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. Mujeeb’s four-wicket haul, highlighted by a memorable hat-trick, dismantled the West Indies chase as they were bowled out for 150 in 18.5 overs.

With the win, Afghanistan secured an unassailable lead in the three-match T20I series, underlining their growing dominance in the shortest format.

Mujeeb ur Rahman joins elite Afghan club with stunning hat-trick

Mujeeb finished with figures of 4 for 21, becoming only the third Afghan bowler to claim a T20I hat-trick after Rashid Khan and Karim Janat. His magic began early when he trapped Evin Lewis leg-before with a quicker delivery before deceiving Johnson Charles with a ball that drifted in sharply, leaving West Indies reeling at 38 for 3 after eight overs.

The spinner had to wait until his final over to complete the hat-trick. West Indies captain Brandon Kingwho had battled his way to a half-century, holed out at long-on, and Mujeeb followed it up by clean bowling Quentin Sampson to seal a remarkable spell.

Darwish Rasooli and Sediqullah Atal lay solid batting platform for Afghanistan

Earlier, Afghanistan posted a challenging 189 for 4 after West Indies won the toss and opted to field. The innings was built around another composed knock from Darwish Rasooli, who smashed 68 runs off just 39 balls. Rasooli showcased his growing maturity, blending timing with clean power to keep the scoreboard ticking.

After Afghanistan lost openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran inside the powerplay, Rasooli found the ideal partner in Sediqullah Atal. The pair added a decisive 115-run stand, dominating both pace and spin during the middle overs.

Atal contributed an aggressive 53, striking three sixes and two fours before falling to Matthew Forde, who finished with respectable figures of 2 for 25.

Afghanistan finished strongly, thanks to Azmatullah Omarzai as he smashed an unbeaten 26 off just 13 balls.

West Indies fightback falls short despite Shimron Hetmyer blitz

Chasing 190, West Indies briefly threatened through Shimron Hetmyer, who played a breathtaking cameo of 46 off 17 balls, launching six towering sixes. However, his dismissal while attempting another big hit against Fazalhaq Farooqi swung momentum decisively back in Afghanistan’s favour.

Omarzai claimed 2 for 20, while Farooqi’s 2 for 28 included the final wicket as he dismissed Ramon Simmonds, ending the match with seven balls remaining.

The final T20I between the two teams will be played on Thursday, with Afghanistan now aiming to complete a clean sweep and the West Indies looking for a consolation win.
