(Watch) Mohammed Shami bowls to assistant coach Abhishek Nayar in nets after India’s defeat to New Zealand in first Test

Mohammed Shami was seen bowling to Team India’s assistant coach Abhishek Nayar after the team’s eight-wicket defeat to New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Shami has been out of action since the 2023 ODI World Cup final at home.

Shami bowled for an hour with heavy strapping on his left knee. Nayar, the former India player, was seen batting against Shami while the bowling coach, Morne Morkel, watched the speedster closely.

“I am working hard to return to the cricket field. However, there is no point in playing the game until I regain full fitness, and I don’t want to get insured against it,” Mohammed Shami told the PTI in September.

“The stronger I return, the better it is for me. I don’t to rush myself for the matches against Bangladesh, New Zealand or Australia. I won’t take any chances until I get 100 percent fit.”

He was expected to play the ongoing Ranji Trophy games for Bengal, but the swelling on his left knee has delayed his return. Captain Rohit Sharma doesn’t want to take a chance with Shami. He advocated the need for the pacer to get fit before playing for the country.
