Dhoni is known for being highly private, and according to his close friends and family, the 2011 ODI World Cup-winning captain seldom carries a phone, making it difficult to reach him outside of the cricketing world.
In the previous season, Dhoni played a reduced role as a batsman and only faced a few balls throughout the season. Nonetheless, he showcased his classic hitting skills on occasion, entertaining fans with a few stunning shots. The 43-year-old scored 161 runs in 14 matches last season. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team finished fifth in the IPL 2024 points table, securing seven wins and seven losses across 14 matches.
Dhoni has participated in all 17 seasons of the IPL. While there were speculations about him retiring after the 2024 season, he did not announce his retirement and was instead retained by CSK. In addition to Dhoni, CSK also retained players like Ruturaj Gaikwad (Rs 18 crore), Ravindra Jadeja (Rs 18 crore), Matheesha Pathirana (Rs 13 crore), and Shivam Dube (Rs 12 crore).
The five-time IPL champions also added names like Ravichandran Ashwin, Sam Curran, Rahul Tripathi, Khaleel Ahmed, Anshul Kamboj, Noor Ahmed, Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, and Nathan Ellis to their squad during the IPL 2025 mega auction.
