‌WATCH, WBBL | Ellyse Perry scrapes through close run out due to Hobart’s no appeal

It is necessary to always be in the moment during an intense contest to avoid any mishap. It is exactly what Hobart Hurricane’s Lizelle Lee failed to do during the recent encounter against Sydney Thunder as her lackluster effort cost her team the big wicket of Ellyse Perry at the Bellerive Oval.

With the toss going in their favor, Hobart Hurricanes Women didn’t shy away from fielding first in the morning conditions of the Bellerive Oval. Zoe Cooke and Chloe Tryon did exactly what the doctor ordered as Alyssa Healy and Sarah Bryce fell cheaply within the powerplay. Despite all the odds, Perry kept the scoreboard ticking with partners Ashleigh Gardner and Hollie Armitage for the majority of the middle overs phase. She surpassed the eighty-run mark at the fag end of the innings before an outlandish event took center stage, costing Hobart the big wicket.

The third ball of the last over was dabbed towards the right of the short third fielder by Mathilda Carmichael off a length delivery from Heather Graham. As she eyed for a single, Perry cooperated but seemed to be casual in completing the single. Although keeper Lizelle Lee grabbed the ball and whipped off the bail in a jiffy she didn’t quite appeal, thinking that Perry made her ground. The on-air commentators was bewildered by the keeper’s lackluster effort with the replays showing Perry marginally short of making home. What could’ve been a big wicket ended up as an agonising error from the Hurricanes as they curbed the Sixers for 155 in the first innings.
