Water level of Kheerganga river increased after heavy rain in Harshil valley.
Due to heavy rain on Saturday evening in Harshil Valley of Uttarakhand, the water level of Kheerganga river flowing through the disaster affected area increased. There was a danger of the road getting damaged due to the debris and stones flowing with the water getting stuck in the drains on the Gangotri Highway.
BRO machinery reached the spot, removed the debris and stones stuck in the drains and diverted the water flow through the drains to make way for it. However, after some time the water level became normal and people heaved a sigh of relief.
Last year in the month of August, the disaster in Kheerganga had wreaked havoc in Dharali village of Harshil Valley. In that disaster, many buildings, hotels and Gangotri Highway were razed to the ground. Even today the local people have not been able to recover from the wounds of that disaster.
After the start of monsoon season this year, the water level of Kheerganga was also seen rising on Saturday. Due to this, an atmosphere of fear was created in Dharali for some time. However, after some time the situation became normal. But this year, due to the increase in the water level of Kheerganga after the Telgad river of Harsil, there is fear like last year’s disaster.
On the other hand, Harshil is also in danger due to rising water level of these rivers. Because these rivers join the Bhagirathi Ganga river and due to this, Harshil is in danger due to the increase in the water level of the Bhagirathi river.
