Kerala CM called the news of preparing a memorandum for central assistance fake, said- harmful journalism is happening

Thiruvananthapuram : Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has accused a section of the media of spreading fake news against the state government. He made this allegation in relation to the memorandum prepared by the Kerala government for central assistance after the landslides in Wayanad. The Chief Minister alleged that the opposition is also trying to take advantage of these fake news which aim to defame the state government.

“Damaging journalism is happening in Kerala. A section of the media has become a controversy factory,” Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said at a press conference here on Saturday. He said Kerala's image has been tarnished due to fake news. The Chief Minister alleged that a narrative has emerged after the media spread misinformation, claiming that Kerala was trying to get aid through unfair means.

Expert professionals prepare the memo

Accusing the media of spreading fake news about the state government preparing a memorandum for central assistance after the Wayanad landslide, Vijayan said, “The opposition is also trying to take advantage of these fake news. The aim of these reports is to defame the state government in any way possible.” The chief minister clarified that the memorandum after a disaster is prepared not by ministers but by professionals with certified expertise in the field. He said the media has misinterpreted the figures prepared by these experts. He also said the figures given in the memorandum are not exaggerated but estimated.

There was a massive landslide in Wayanad on 30 July

The massive landslide that occurred on 30 July caused massive destruction in the entire Wayanad. More than 300 people were killed in this terrible accident and many houses and buildings were destroyed. After this disaster, on 10 August, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited the landslide-affected Wayanad and went to the relief camp to know the condition of the people there.
