This match being played between Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes has become one of those rare incidents in WBBL history, where damage to the pitch caused the game to be stopped. Now the match has been declared over after giving one point to both the teams.

The WBBL match was being played at Karen Rolton Oval in South Australia. Adelaide Strikers batted first and scored a strong score of 167/4 in 20 overs, but during the innings break, when the roller was being run on the pitch, a ball suddenly got stuck under the roller. As the roller moved forward, part of the pitch got uprooted and a big crater was formed there. According to WBBL rules, running a roller on the pitch during the innings break is a normal procedure, but this time the incident changed the course of the match. Despite all the efforts of the ground staff, the pitch could not be brought to a playable condition.

Decision taken after the meeting of umpires and match referee

Adelaide Strikers issued a statement on Instagram saying, “The condition of the pitch had completely changed. The match referee and umpires, after inspection, decided that it would not be safe for the Hurricanes to bat on this pitch.” After consultation with the captains of both the teams, the decision to cancel the match was taken. After this both the teams were given 1-1 points.

This decision has proved to be a big blow for Adelaide Strikers. This is their third no result match this season, due to which they have reached sixth place in the points table. Now the Strikers have the last league match against Sydney Sixers, in which it has become very important for them to win.
