This time the reason is not any legal incident, but a private party organized in London, where both were seen together. This party was organized on the occasion of Vijay Mallya’s birthday, in which Lalit Modi also attended as a guest. The special thing was that by sharing the video of this party on social media, Lalit Modi took a jibe at India and called himself and Mallya the biggest fugitives of India.

Birthday party video became cause of controversy

The video shared by Lalit Modi is becoming increasingly viral on social media. In the video, he is seen with Vijay Mallya and is heard laughingly saying that both of them are India’s “biggest fugitives”. Many people are seeing this statement as openly making fun of the law and Indian investigative agencies. Lalit Modi posted this video on his Instagram account and also used sharp words in its caption.

The caption written by Lalit Modi along with the video further fueled the controversy. He wrote that he was deliberately doing something which would create an uproar on the internet again. He also took a jibe at the critics and wrote, “Let your heart be torn with jealousy.” After this statement, sharp reactions were seen from people on social media. Many users called it an insult to the Indian law and order.

Vijay Mallya: Out of India since 2016

There are serious allegations against Vijay Mallya of non-payment of loans worth thousands of crores of rupees from many banks of the country and money laundering. In March 2016, he left India and went to London. Later, after investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and other agencies, a special court declared him a fugitive economic offender in January 2019. The Indian government is continuously trying to extradite him, but till now he is living in Britain.

Serious financial allegations against Lalit Modi

Lalit Modi, who was once one of the important faces of the Indian Premier League (IPL), left India in the year 2010. There are serious allegations against him like tax evasion, money laundering and proxy ownership in IPL. The Enforcement Directorate claims that he had allegedly received bribes worth more than Rs 125 crore by manipulating the IPL broadcast rights process in 2009.
