‘We talk 10 times a day,’ Kotak says rumor over rift between Kohli and Gambhir

Before the second ODI between India and England played in Cardiff on Thursday (July 16), there were reports of rift between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir. Media reports claimed that talks between the two had stopped. After Birmingham, both were not seen talking to each other during the practice session in Cardiff also.

Gambhir was seen talking to Rohit Sharma but maintained a distance from Kohli. After this, speculations of rift between Kohli and Gambhir had increased, which has been put to rest by Indian team’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak.

What did Kotak say on the news of rift?

Terming the reports of Gambhir and Kohli not talking to each other as rumours, Kotak said that even though they may appear far away from each other during practice sessions, they talk ’10 times a day’. There were reports that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been advised to take the help of a mediator to bring about a reconciliation between Gambhir and Kohli. However, Kotak rejected all these things.

Everything is fine between Kohli and Gambhir

Kohli was seen continuously talking to Kotak during the practice session. When Kotak was asked in the press conference after India’s defeat by 4 wickets in the second ODI whether he was acting as a ‘bridge’ between Kohli and Gambhir, he started laughing.

He said, ‘Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir talk to each other at least 10 times a day. I don’t think he (Kohli) needs any medium to talk to the head coach. Kotak further said, ‘You have talked about lack of communication. I don’t know from where you hear these things but these are just rumours.
