“We wanted to stop him, but he entered the ground like a lion”: EX-player recalls MS Dhoni’s angry outburst

MS Dhoni is one of the greatest captains in the history of cricket. He is also known as Captain Cool because of his calm nature on the field. However, there have been moments when he lost his cool on the ground. During an IPL match between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals in 2019, he entered the ground to argue with the umpires. Former CSK bowler Mohit Sharma recently recalled the incident.

Ben Stokes bowled a full toss in the final over of the match to Mitchell Santner, and the no-ball siren was played out. However, the square leg umpire said that he didn’t call it a no-ball.

This angered Dhoni, who came out to the middle and started arguing with the officials. He was fined 50% of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.

In the recent episode of the 2 Sloggers Podcast, Mohit said that all the players wanted to stop their captain, but the veteran didn’t listen to anyone. He entered the ground like a Lion.

“We were in the dugout and wanted to stop MS Dhoni, but he didn’t listen to us and also didn’t look behind. Dhoni entered the ground like a Lion,’ Mohit said.

“He was furious with his dismissal, and when the incident happened, he asked whether it was a no-ball. We told him that the siren was played out. Then he didn’t stop,” he added.

Mohit now plays for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League. On the other hand, Dhoni hasn’t confirmed his availability for IPL 2025.
