Speaking to ‘Variety’, Ritesh Deshmukh talked about the influence of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He said, “Being from a Marathi family, we grew up reading and listening to the heroic stories of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. His significance is equally true for today’s generation. I don’t think there is anyone like him in the world. I am not talking about gurus or gods. A king who left behind an immortal legacy, which continues to inspire today.”

Ritesh Deshmukh wants to present the story of Shivaji Maharaj on a bigger scale. Speaking about the film, Ritesh Deshmukh said, “‘Raja Shivaji’ is a Marathi bilingual film. We are planning to make the film in other languages as well. Our aim is to make it on a big scale. Marathi films often have a limited reach. Population-wise, Maharashtra has approximately 120 million people, of which around 100 million are Marathi-speaking. This number is more than the population of many other states or countries. However, the box office figures do not reflect this.”

We will try to tell a new aspect

Talking about the film’s story and shooting experience, the actor said, “The story starts with him being a witness, then he starts asking questions and finally he decides about his future. We are uncovering a completely different side of his personality. It is as much a historical saga as it is a family story. The story of a father, a son, a husband and a brother. He passed away at the age of just 50, but he had achieved so much by then. I lived his life for two and a half to three years. Tried to put it in hours.”
