Helmet Tips: In Road Safety Rules to the helmet Given the utmost importance, many people avoid using it. Sometimes there is a complaint of excessive palm, and sometimes there is a fear of hair damage or neck pain. Many consider it to be just a ‘cut’. However, a helmet is the strongest shield that can save your life in a road accident. If you too feel uncomfortable while wearing a helmet, the following 5 solutions can solve your problem forever.

1. Choose the right size and light weight helmet

The biggest cause of trouble is an incorrect helmet size. A helmet that is too loose tends to move around on the head, while a helmet that is too tight can cause headaches. Always buy a helmet that matches your head size and has an ISI mark. A heavy helmet puts stress on the neck, so it is always better to choose a helmet made of a light but strong material like carbon fiber.

2. Pay attention to ventilation and air circulation

Sweating and heat build up inside the helmet is most troublesome in summer. The solution is to choose a helmet that has ‘ventilation ports’ for air. Proper airflow keeps the head cool and reduces perspiration. A helmet with quality ventilation for long rides helps reduce fatigue.

3. Do this to protect your hair and scalp

Damaged or itchy hair due to helmets is a common problem. A simple solution for this is the use of ‘Balaclava’ or a cotton handkerchief. Before wearing the helmet, a thin cotton cloth is tied on the head to absorb the sweat. This prevents friction between the hair and the helmet, reduces hair breakage and also keeps the helmet clean inside.

4. Don’t overlook the quality of the visor

A fogged or scratched visor makes it difficult to see, so people drive with the visor up. This is very dangerous. Always use a visor that is clean, scratch-free and has an anti-fog coating. This will allow you to see clearly even in rain or cold and protect your eyes from dust.

5. Keep the strap fitting properly

Many people wear helmets but don’t wear their straps properly. The strap should be tight enough that the helmet does not fall off and loose enough that it does not interfere with breathing or turning the neck. Proper fitting distributes the weight of the helmet evenly on the head and makes it more comfortable to use.
