Weather Alert: With the beginning of the month of April, most parts of the country are witnessing a steady change in nature. From Delhi-NCR to the roads of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, the weather has changed drastically. While bringing some respite from the heat, hail has disrupted life elsewhere. It’s not just normal rain, but a period of gusty winds and hailstorms, which are likely to reduce temperatures in northwest India by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius.

Farmers’ hard work was wasted due to hailstorm

The saddest and most serious aspect of this changing climate relates to the hardworking farmers of our country. A sudden change in the weather on Friday brought down temperatures in Delhi and surrounding areas due to hailstorm, posing a threat to standing crops as well. Heavy rains and hailstones have caused heavy crop damage in north Rajasthan, with the Jaipur Meteorological Center warning of severe thunderstorms and heavy rains in Udaipur, Ajmer, Kota and Jaipur divisions on Saturday. Farmers now fear that if the hailstorm continues like this, their months of hard work will be wasted in an instant.

Tension in 22 states due to influence of westerly winds

According to meteorologists, this drastic change is due to a combination of the influence of active westerly winds and moisture from the Arabian Sea. As a result, lightning and gusty winds are forecast in the capital Delhi on Saturday, prompting an ‘orange alert’ to be issued in several states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand. Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, is also likely to experience winds of 50 to 60 km per hour. The warnings issued for various parts are illustrated in the figure below.

Additionally, this severe weather is likely to persist over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha till April 7. South Indian states like Kerala, Telangana and Karnataka are also forecast with light rain and thundershowers. Looking at these forecasts, the entire country seems to be in the grip of seasonal instability.

What will the weather be like next week?

According to information, the maximum temperature is likely to be 29 degree Celsius in Delhi on Saturday, while it may touch 38 degree Celsius in cities like Patna and Kolkata. The relief is that the weather is likely to cool down in West Bengal districts from Sunday due to moisture from the Bay of Bengal. But still caution is needed, as the Meteorological Department has indicated that a more powerful ‘Western Disturbance’ may become active from April 7, which will once again produce storms in Rajasthan and North India.
