Weather Alert: Heavy rain and storm in 17 states of India

The Meteorological Department (India Meteorological Department) has issued a fresh alert for many states of the country. According to the information, on June 2, a warning of heavy rain and storm has been issued in a total of 17 states including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

New Delhi: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a major weather alert across the country. According to the latest forecast of the department, the impact of heavy rains, storms and strong winds can be seen in 17 states of the country on June 2. Wind speed is expected to reach 70 to 80 kilometers per hour in many areas.

The Meteorological Department has advised people to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel, especially in areas where there is a risk of lightning, uprooting of trees and hailstorm.

Stormy weather alert in 17 states

According to IMD, the states where the weather is likely to deteriorate on June 2 include Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Warning of heavy rain and storm with thunder has been issued in these states. There is also a possibility of hailstorm in some areas.

According to meteorologists, at present there is an active Cyclonic Circulation system over the north-eastern Bay of Bengal and the south-eastern Arabian Sea.

How will the weather be in Delhi?

An alert of rain and storm has been issued in the national capital Delhi on June 2. The wind speed here can range from 40 to 50 km/hour.

    • Maximum temperature: about 36°C
    • Minimum temperature: around 28°C
    • Conditions: Cloudy, light to moderate rain and strong winds

 

Heavy impact in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar

There is a warning of strong thunderstorm and rain in many districts of Uttar Pradesh including Saharanpur, Meerut, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Agra and Gorakhpur. Winds can reach up to 70 km/h in some areas. In Bihar, an alert of heavy rain and storm has been issued in districts like Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Buxar and Bhojpur. The wind speed here can reach 65–70 km/h.

Danger increased in hilly states

The weather will remain unstable in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir for the next few days.

    • Uttarakhand: Heavy rain in Nainital, Pithoragarh, Chamoli and Dehradun
    • Himachal: 60–70 km/hr winds in Shimla, Kullu and Kangra
    • Jammu and Kashmir: Heavy rain and danger of landslides in many districts

 

People planning tourism or travel ave been advised to take special precautions.

Alert in Eastern and Central India also

There is a possibility of strong thunderstorm and rain in Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh. Whereas in Madhya Pradesh, there may be moderate to heavy rain in districts like Jabalpur, Ujjain, Vidisha and Dhar. Dust storm with speed of 55–60 km/hr may occur in many parts of Rajasthan. There is a possibility of rain in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner and Ajmer.

In Punjab too, an alert of strong winds and rain has been issued in many districts including Firozpur, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Pathankot. There is a possibility of heavy rain due to active monsoon in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. At the same time, a rain alert has been issued in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh with strong winds of 70–80 km/hour.
