Weather Update: Weather patterns appear to be shifting across several parts of India. While states in South India are witnessing heavy rainfall, North and West India may experience thunderstorms accompanied by heatwave conditions. The IMD (India Meteorological Department) has announced that a new Western Disturbance is set to become active starting May 10. Consequently, significant changes in weather patterns are expected.

In its latest weather bulletin, the IMD has shared updates regarding the weather outlook across the country. Furthermore, between May 11 and May 14, 2026, there is a likelihood of thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and strong winds across various locations in North-Western India.

The Meteorological Department forecasts that over the next seven days, several locations across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal may experience thunderstorms, lightning strikes, strong winds gusting at speeds of 40–60 km/h, and heavy rainfall. Additionally, during this seven-day period, heatwave conditions are anticipated in isolated areas across parts of Western Rajasthan and the state of Gujarat.

Rainfall Warning for These States
According to the Meteorological Department, between May 11 and May 14, 2026, North-Western India is likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by squalls, lightning strikes, and strong winds at isolated to scattered locations. Furthermore, over the next seven days, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are expected to experience thunderstorms with squalls, lightning, and strong winds at isolated to scattered locations, with the possibility of heavy rainfall in some areas.

Weather Outlook for North-West India
Significant changes in weather conditions are expected across the plains and hilly states of North India between May 11 and May 14. Specifically, on May 11 and 12, gusty winds are likely to prevail across Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Muzaffarabad. A similar scene could be witnessed in Uttarakhand on May 12.

A possibility of hailstorms has been forecast for Himachal Pradesh on May 12, and for Uttarakhand on May 12–13.
The Meteorological Department has stated that rain, accompanied by lightning and winds gusting up to 50 km/h, is predicted for Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana between May 11 and May 14. A rain alert has been issued for Western UP for May 12–14, and for Eastern UP for May 13–14.

What will the weather be like in South India?

Kerala and Tamil Nadu: An alert regarding heavy rainfall and lightning has been issued for these states—as well as for Puducherry and Karaikal—for the next 7 days.

Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh: According to the Meteorological Department, an alert has been issued for Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and the interior regions of Karnataka, anticipating rain accompanied by thunderstorms from May 10 to May 12.

Weather in West Bengal and Bihar
According to the Meteorological Department, an alert has been issued for Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand regarding stormy winds gusting up to 70 km/h on May 8 and 9. There is also a possibility of hailstorms in West Bengal today.

Weather in Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha
An alert for severe thunderstorms has also been issued for Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh for May 9.
