Today’s weather, February 16: Alert of rain in 7 states and dense fog in many districts, will the severe cold return again?
Amidst the relief from winter in the country, the Meteorological Department has once again issued a scary alert. There is a strong possibility of cold increasing again due to rain, lightning and dense fog in many states of North India for the next 3 days.
Reduction in cold was being felt in various parts of the country including North India for the last few days, but the new bulletin of IMD has increased the concern. According to the Meteorological Department, today i.e. from February 16 to February 18, rain can create problems in 7 states of North India – Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh. During this period, not only are there chances of heavy rains, but there is also a possibility of strong winds and lightning.
What is the state wise rain schedule?
The Meteorological Department has issued a detailed region-wise rainfall program. There is a possibility of rain in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on 16 and 17 February. At the same time, in the hilly states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh on 17 and 18 February ‘Jhamazham’ Rain alert has been issued. Talking about the plains, heavy rains are also expected in Punjab, Haryana and North Rajasthan on 17-18 February.
Light rain may occur at some places in Western Uttar Pradesh on 17-18 February, while in Madhya Pradesh its effect is likely to be visible with a slight delay, i.e. on 18-19 February. After the rain, cold may increase once again in these districts.
Visibility will be reduced in 34 districts of North India
Along with rain, dense fog is also going to affect life. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding dense fog in 34 districts of the country. Visibility may remain very low in the morning in major cities of Uttar Pradesh like Agra, Lucknow, Kanpur, Ayodhya and Jhansi. There is an alert of dense fog in Haryana’s Gurugram, Sonipat and Hisar as well as in Punjab’s Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala. Fog will also become a problem in areas like Kullu, Mandi and Shimla of Himachal Pradesh.
Condition of Delhi-NCR: Will get relief from pollution
The weather is expected to be clear in the country’s capital Delhi today (16 February) and there is no possibility of rain. However, a slight cold feeling will persist in the morning. The good news for Delhiites is that the air quality is likely to improve, which will reduce pollution levels. Today’s maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to be 28°C and minimum temperature will be 13°C.

Updates on special districts of South India and Uttar Pradesh
In South India, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal will have dry weather from February 16 to 18, but due to the formation of a low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, scattered rain may occur on February 19 and 20. There has been a warning of light to moderate rain with lightning on February 17-18 in Uttar Pradesh, especially in districts like Meerut, Ghaziabad, Noida and Moradabad.
