Weather Update: Severe cold in North India, cold wave alert issued in these states
Weather Update: The weather patterns have changed once again in many states of the country and severe cold has caught people in its grip. Cold wave continues in many parts of Central and Eastern India including North India. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the effect of cold is likely to increase in the coming days instead of decreasing. A huge drop in night temperature is being recorded in many areas, due to which the cold winds are being felt more strongly in the morning and late evening.
IMD says that cold wave will persist in parts of Punjab and Haryana on 7, 10 and 11 December. Apart from this, cold winds are likely to continue in Western Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha on December 7 and 8, in Eastern Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh on December 7 and in Jharkhand and Odisha on December 7. The temperature in these areas may go much below normal, which will further increase the effect of cold.
According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in many parts of North-West India may increase by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius for the next two days, but after that the temperature is likely to drop by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in the next three days. Temperatures will remain stable over most areas of central India over the next 24 hours, but may rise by about 2 degrees in the three days thereafter. Whereas in Western India, the minimum temperature is expected to drop by 2 to 3 degrees in the next 3 to 4 days. There is no possibility of any major change in temperature in the rest of the country.
Along with cold, fog has also made the situation more difficult. There is a possibility of dense fog in many areas of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura between December 7 and 11. There will be dense fog in the morning in Himachal Pradesh from 7 to 9 December, while visibility may be very low in Odisha on 7 and 8 December. There is a possibility of impact on road and rail traffic due to fog.
Meanwhile, the weather has once again become active in the hill states. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Uttarakhand on December 7 and 8. There may be snowfall in Himachal Pradesh also on December 7. Due to this, the temperature in these areas may go down further and situation of slipping and road blockage may also arise at many places.
The rainy season is expected to continue in South India and island areas. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning in Tamil Nadu on 6 and 7 December. There may be rain in Lakshadweep on 6 December. There will be rain and thundershowers at many places in Andaman and Nicobar Islands on December 6 and 7, while rainfall may be recorded in some areas on December 8. There is a possibility of rain continuing here from 9th to 12th December also.
