Weather Update: This year’s rains are disrupted due to bad weather; Drought eased due to low rainfall forecast

New Delhi : Against the backdrop of deteriorating weather across the country, Skymet Weather has released its first for 2026 Monsoonhas been announced and the picture looks uncertain at this time. Although a good start is expected in June, rainfall is expected to taper off between July and September. The main reason for this is said to be the possible return of El Nino.

After an initial relief, the monsoon may slow down, which will have a direct impact on agriculture, inflation and the country’s economy. Rainfall in 2026 is expected to be below average. According to Skymet estimates, it will be 94 percent of the period average (LPA). This is due to El Nino, which is likely to affect rainfall. As per Skymet forecast, the country can receive an average rainfall of 817 mm in 4 months. However, there is a possibility of 5% less or less.

The agency also said there is a 30% chance of drought in the country this year, while there is a 40% chance of below-normal rainfall. Now all eyes are on IMD i.e. Government Meteorological Department. The government’s Meteorological Department may release its first official monsoon forecast by the end of this month.

Rainfall status during August-September

Rainfall conditions are likely to remain weak in August as well. As per Skymet forecast, rainfall this month may reach only 92% of LPA. The chance of rainfall in August is approximately 60%. LPA for this month is 254.9 mm. September has the highest chance of rainfall deficiency at 79%.

A bridge under construction collapsed in Chamba

An under-construction bridge on the Holi-Kharmukha road in Chamba district collapsed due to a landslide on Tuesday morning. There was no loss of life in this incident. The construction of this bridge was nearing completion, but it collapsed due to a landslide. The concerned officials have been instructed to visit the spot. This bridge provides an alternative route for Holi.
