Major accident in Bengal: Coal mine collapses in Asansol, 3 laborers die tragically, many still buried under debris
Tunnel Collapses in Asansol Coal Mine: A major accident took place on Tuesday in BCCL’s open cast coal mine in Badira area under Kulti police station area of Asansol in West Bardhaman district. It is alleged that during illegal coal extraction, the tunnel inside the mine suddenly caved in, trapping many workers. According to media reports, at least 5 to 6 people were present inside the mine at the time of the accident. So far, three people have been confirmed dead in this accident, while two people are seriously injured.
The injured have been admitted to Asansol District Hospital for treatment. The administration fears that one to two people may still be trapped under the debris. To rescue them, rescue operation is being conducted on war footing with Poklane machines.
A woman was also among the dead
As soon as the news of the accident spread, a crowd of hundreds of people gathered around the mine. The relatives of the dead and missing people are present at the spot. The family members allege that people associated with the coal mafia are trying to remove them from the area, but the family members are holding on in the hope of getting a glimpse of their loved ones. A woman is also included among the dead. The deceased have been identified as Geeta Bauri, Suresh Bauri and Tipu Bauri. The names of the injured laborers are being told as Subhash Mallik and Govind Bauri.
The administration fears that one to two people may still be trapped inside the mine. Rapid relief and rescue operations are being carried out with the help of Poklane machines to rescue them. A large number of police forces and CISF have been deployed on the spot.
This incident has happened before also
Let us tell you that this is not the first incident. There have been many deaths due to subsidence in this open cast mine of Badira, despite this there are allegations of illegal mining continuing. Local people claim that every day 3 to 4 trucks of illegal coal are taken out from here and sent to nearby furnaces. After this accident, once again serious questions have been raised on the safety of mines, administrative monitoring and the network of coal mafia.

Heavy police force and CISF have been deployed at the incident site. Police say that the cause of the accident and the angle of illegal mining are being investigated. Meanwhile, BJP MLA Ajay Poddar has launched a scathing attack on the incident and raised questions against the administration of the state government.
