West Bengal assembly voting preparations for April 23

Asansol, West Bengal – With the first phase of polling in West Bengal scheduled for April 23, Returning Officer for Asansol Uttar Assembly constituency, Aghore Kumar Roy, confirmed that all arrangements have been completed to ensure smooth and peaceful voting across the area.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that the first phase will cover 152 Assembly constituencies, while the second phase will involve 142 seats. Voting for the 294-member West Bengal Assembly will be conducted in these two phases, with the counting of votes set for May 4.

Discussing preparations, Roy stated that polling parties are being dispatched to their respective polling stations equipped with all necessary materials. Extensive security measures have been put in place, including deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) at every polling station to guarantee free and fair elections.

Voting will close at 6:00 pm, but anyone in the queue by then will still be allowed to cast their vote. In Asansol, there are 3,313 polling stations, all equipped with uninterrupted webcasting and full security arrangements,” he said.

The election is expected to witness a contest between the incumbent Trinamool Congress, which is seeking a fourth consecutive term, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which aims to form the government following strong performances in previous elections. In the 2021 Assembly elections, the Congress party failed to win any seats. After a poor performance, Congress is attempting to transform the election into a three-way contest between Trinamool Congress, BJP, and itself.
