West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed concern about the current situation in Bangladesh.
The continuous attacks on minority Hindus in Bangladesh are not stopping. Concern is being expressed across India regarding the attacks. Many major political parties of the country including Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress have also expressed deep displeasure over the attacks. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also expressed her concern over the current situation in the neighboring country, but stressed that she does not want to comment on the matter as it is related to another country.
Speaking in the West Bengal Assembly in Kolkata, CM Banerjee said that this serious issue should be resolved by the Central Government and its decision will be followed by the State Government. CM Banerjee said that he agrees with the decision of the Central Government on the issue of Bangladesh. In his words, 'We cannot take any decision regarding Bangladesh.'
The matter is outside our jurisdiction
Mamata Banerjee said, “Bangladesh is a different country. The Government of India will look into this issue. This matter is beyond our jurisdiction. We should not talk about this nor interfere. “Although we are saddened internally, we follow the policies set by the Centre.”
During her address, Mamata Banerjee of Bengal also mentioned that she had talked to ISKCON representatives on this matter, but she did not give any further information about it.
ISKCON gets relief from HC
On the other hand, today the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has got a big relief in Bangladesh. The High Court there has rejected the demand for banning the activities of ISKCON in Bangladesh. Earlier, a request was made to the High Court that the court should take suo motu cognizance and pass an order banning the activities of ISKCON in Bangladesh.
Senior advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, Mohammad Monir Uddin, brought before the High Court bench on Wednesday some published news related to ISKCON and requested the court to take suo motu cognizance in this regard and direct the government to ban the organization. Also issue instructions to impose section 144 in Chittagong, Rangpur and Dinajpur.
