West Bengal colorful in celebration of Kali Puja and Diwali, a unique confluence of light and devotion

Kolkata : Kali Puja and Diwali were celebrated with great enthusiasm in West Bengal on Thursday. The state administration had given permission to burn only green crackers as per the court's prior order. In view of this, police and State Pollution Control Board officials were keeping vigil to prevent violation of this rule. It is noteworthy that burning of firecrackers producing sound more than 125 decibels is not allowed in West Bengal.

Long queues of people were seen at famous Kali temples, such as Tarapeeth, Dakshineswar and Kalighat. People came out to see the puja pandal in various areas of Kolkata, such as Amherst Street, Bowbazar, S N Banerjee Road and Chetla. Apart from community puja pandals, people also organized Kali Puja in their homes. During Diwali, many shops are decorated with lamps and electric lights. People were seen distributing sweets and wishing each other.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee organized Kali Puja at her residence in Kalighat. During this, he greeted the dignitaries and common people. The Chief Minister shared pictures of the puja on his social media and also posted a video of making bhog for Goddess Kali. He wrote, “My prayer to the Goddess for the well-being of mother-soil and man. This puja was started by my mother in 1978 and this is its 46th year.”

Opposition leader Subhendu Adhikari also posted on social media platform X, writing, “May the light of the lamps illuminate your home with joy, happiness and prosperity.” Thus, the festivals of Kali Puja and Diwali in West Bengal, celebrated with tradition, reverence and joy, form an important part of the cultural heritage of the state.
