West Bengal Election 2026: Election Commission’s blunder or conspiracy? All Muslims missing from voter list of a booth in Basirhat, even ‘BLO’ name deleted
Kolkata. A surprising case has come to light from Basirhat North Assembly Constituency of West Bengal. Many people are also calling this matter a failure of the SIR process. The list which has been published in the area. There are no names of Muslim voters in large numbers in it. All the voters whose names have been deleted are from booth number 5 of Boro Gobra village. Even the name of the BLO of that area is not in the list. Those whose names have been removed were first kept for consideration in the draft voter list but when the first supplementary list was released on Monday, their names were removed from the final voter list.

Name of ‘BLO’ removed from the list
When this matter gained momentum. When people came to know that the name of Booth Level Officer Mohammad Shafiul Alam living in this area was also included in the removed names. After this matter came to light, more than a hundred people demonstrated at the officer’s residence and on the streets. People alleged that their names were deleted after targeting them on the basis of their religion.
What did BLO Alam say?
On this matter, BLO Alam said that he had personally helped these voters in filling the forms and had ensured whether the necessary election documents of all the voters were uploaded as per the rules or not. Even after all the procedures were done properly, the names have been removed. Let us tell you that this dispute is related to booth number 5 of Begumpur Bibipur Gram Panchayat of Basirhat Block II.

Local people ready to go to court
A voter among the affected voters said that the Election Commission demands only one of the 11 valid documents. Many people submitted three-four documents instead of one but still their names were removed from the voter list. Also, the protesting people allege that this action has been taken under political pressure and decisions have been taken keeping in mind some specific demands. Alam said that he will approach the court regarding this matter.
