West Bengal Election Result 2026: Mamata Banerjee’s defeat

Mumbai: The results of West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 have brought a big change in the politics of the country. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made a historic comeback to power in the state by securing a thumping majority, while the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has faced a crushing defeat. What did Supriya Sule say?
Supriya Sule, reacting to the West Bengal election results, said that victory and defeat is a normal process in politics. Sule said that there are ups and downs in political life and a leader’s journey does not end with one defeat. Election result: Big victory for BJP
The results of the total 293 seats in this election were as follows:
- BJP: 207 seats
- TMC: 80 seats
- Congress: 2 seats
- AJUP: 2 seats
- CPI(M): 1 seat
- AIFB: 1 seat
By securing a clear majority in this election, BJP has achieved the position of forming the government in West Bengal for the first time.

- BJP: 45.84% vote share
- TMC: 40.80% vote share
- Congress: 2.97% vote share
This figure shows that the contest in the state was very tough, but BJP maintained its lead.
Bhawanipur seat: Big political upset
The most talked about result in this election was of Bhawanipur seat, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had to face defeat.
- BJP candidate: 73,917 votes
- Mamata Banerjee: 58,812 votes
- Margin of victory: 15,105 votes
Mamata Banerjee’s defeat on this seat is being considered as a big change in the politics of the state. BJP leader Subhendu Adhikari won two seats in this election. He performed strongly in both Nandigram and Bhawanipur and proved to be a big blow to TMC.
