West Bengal Politics: Ruckus in Bengal before elections! Shoe thrown at Suvendu Adhikari, violent clash between TMC-BJP supporters outside CEO office

Kolkata. The political temperature has reached sky high regarding the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal. Even before the elections, a period of violent confrontation has started in the state between the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the main opposition party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). On Tuesday (February 24), there was a huge uproar outside the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in Kolkata, when a shoe was publicly thrown at Leader of Opposition in Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari. After this incident, supporters of both the parties came face to face and there was heavy sloganeering and pushing. Seeing the situation going out of control, heavy police force had to take charge. TMC’s protest was going on regarding the voter list. According to the information, the root of this entire uproar is a dispute related to the voter list. In fact, on Tuesday, BLO workers associated with TMC were protesting strongly outside the CEO office. He had received information that the names of about 8000 voters who have not uploaded their required documents may be removed from the final voter list to be released on February 28. TMC supporters were sitting on dharna outside the Election Commission office for a long time regarding this matter. Suvendu Adhikari’s entry and shoes started flying. Amidst this chaos, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari reached the Election Commission office with a complaint of his own. The security personnel allowed Suvendu Adhikari to go inside the office, but stopped the TMC supporters protesting outside from meeting him. Seeing this the protesters got enraged. As soon as Suvendu was entering the office, the crowd started sloganeering against him, he was shown shoes and during this time someone threw a shoe at him. Seeing this misbehavior with their leader, the BJP workers present there also got angry and started raising deafening slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Suvendu Zindabad’, due to which an atmosphere of chaos was created on the spot. Suvendu had come to get the audio clip examined. On this incident, Suvendu Adhikari says that he had gone there to hand over a suspicious ‘audio clip’ to the Election Commission and demand its forensic investigation. The BJP has alleged that a major conspiracy is being hatched to disrupt and sabotage the election process in the state, on which the Commission should take immediate and strict action. On the other hand, TMC has completely rejected all these allegations of BJP and termed it as ‘political drama’ before the elections. Serious questions raised on law and order before the elections. This violent clash that took place in the VVIP area of Kolkata and directly outside the Election Commission office has raised big questions on the law and order of Bengal. The opposition is continuously alleging that election violence is being encouraged in the state. Now the biggest challenge before the Election Commission and the local administration is how to establish a peaceful environment in the state before the assembly elections, so that the general public can exercise their franchise without any fear.
