West Ham appoints former Chelsea coach Graham Potter
Washington Washington. West Ham appointed Graham Potter as manager on Thursday, a day after firing Julen Lopetegui. Potter has been out of management since being fired by Chelsea in 2023 after just seven months in the job at Stamford Bridge. Potter takes charge of a side that have won just three of their last 11 games and are 14th in the standings – seven points above the relegation zone Former Real Madrid and Spain coach Lopetegui paid the price for that poor spell when his departure was confirmed on Wednesday – almost eight months after being appointed to replace David Moyes.
Potter has enjoyed a meteoric rise since starting his coaching career at Ostersunds in Sweden in 2011. He took charge of Swansea in 2018 and, after a stint at Brighton, is in charge of Premier League giants Chelsea until 2022. But his reputation took a hit at Chelsea, which was going through a period of turmoil after a takeover by American owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital and spending $630 million on new players. They lasted just six months after winning just seven from 22 league games.
