New Delhi: The excitement of T20 World Cup 2026 is at its peak and February 11 remained a memorable day for sports lovers. The match between West Indies and England at the prestigious Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai has completely changed the direction of the tournament. West Indies have secured a place in the Super-8 with a spectacular win, while the road ahead for England now looks challenging. This match has created a new stir in the points table of Group C.
On 11 February, South Africa defeated Afghanistan in a double super over to secure their place in the Super-8. At the same time, England won the toss and decided to bowl, but West Indies made a strong score of 196 runs for 6 wickets. Sherfane Rutherford played an explosive inning of unbeaten 76 runs in 42 balls. Apart from this, Jason Holder scored 33 and Roston Chase scored 34 runs and provided significant strength to the team’s score. This challenge proved to be too heavy for the England bowlers.
Decline in England’s batting
Chasing the huge target of 197 runs, England got off to a fast start. Jos Buttler and Phil Salt together scored good runs, but their rhythm deteriorated as soon as Salt was out on the score of 38. There was a small partnership of 36 runs between Butler and Bethel, but the West Indies bowlers completely destroyed the middle order. Windies bowled out England for 166 runs in just 19 overs.
The magic of spinners changed the game
West Indies’ spin bowlers played an important role in this spectacular victory. Gudakesh Moti took 3 important wickets giving 33 runs in 4 overs. Also, Roston Chase also took 2 wickets for 29 runs in 4 overs. Apart from this, Romario Shepherd, Akil Hussain, and Shamar Joseph took one wicket each to complete the scenario of England’s defeat.
Status of Group C marks table
After this win, West Indies are on top with 4 points from two matches and a net runrate of 1.625. Scotland remain second with two points, while England have now dropped to third. England’s position is now difficult as their net run rate has reached -0.650. The victory of Windies and defeat of England has made the tournament more exciting, making the race for Super-8 more interesting.
Nepal’s hopes raised
England’s defeat has opened the doors of Super-8 for an emerging team like Nepal. Nepal’s current net run rate is -0.200 and the next three matches will be very important for them. Now all eyes are on the match between Italy and Nepal on 12th February. If Nepal performs well, they could make it to the next round, which would be a significant upset for the cricket world.
