West Indies defeated Malaysia and made place in Super Six in Women's Under-19 T-20 World Cup

Kuala Lumpurकुआलालंपुर : West Indies sealed their place in the Super Six stage of the Women's Under-19 T20 World Cup 2025 with a thumping 53-run win over hosts Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday. Despite scoring 112 for 7 in 20 overs, the West Indies bowlers tore apart Malaysia's batting lineup, bowling them out for just 59 runs and finishing third in Group A.

This defeat eliminated Malaysia from the tournament, as they finished bottom of the group with three consecutive losses. West Indies captain and all-rounder Samara Ramnath performed brilliantly in this virtual knockout match. Although he scored only 5 runs at the top of the order, he made a significant impact with the ball, taking 4 wickets for only 6 runs. Her figures of five wickets apiece are the third best in this edition of the tournament behind Vaishnavi Sharma (India) and Messi Maceira (Scotland).

Chasing a target of 113, Malaysia were looking stable at 38 for 2 after 10 overs, but Ramnath initiated a dramatic collapse. He took four important wickets, all either bowled or LBW, as Malaysia were all out for 59 runs and lost their last eight wickets for only 21 runs.

Ramnath dismissed Noor Daniya Suhada, who had taken his wicket earlier, in his second over. In the same over, he dismissed Noor Izatul Syafika LBW. Returning for her next spell, she clean bowled Suabika Manivannan before sealing the demolition in the 18th over. Off-spinners Johnny Cumberbatch and Erin Dean also kept the pressure on the Malaysian batsmen by taking four wickets each.

Earlier, after being sent in to bat, West Indies struggled to score runs quickly, but Assaabi Callender held the innings together with 30 runs from 42 balls. His innings ensured that the team had enough runs to defend. India and Sri Lanka, who will face each other later today, have already secured their places in the next round, with West Indies joining them as the third team from Group A. (ANI)
