What did PM Modi say about the players of Indian origin playing T20 World Cup?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday shared his views on many important topics related to the country and society in the 131st edition of his monthly radio program Mann Ki Baat. During this, he especially mentioned the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 and praised those players who, despite being of Indian origin, are representing the national teams of other countries.

The Prime Minister said that sports is not only a medium of competition but also a powerful means of connecting people and cultures. He said that when the spectators watch the T20 World Cup matches, sometimes after hearing the name of a player, they realize that he belongs to India. Even if the player comes to the field wearing the jersey of another country, his connection with Indian origin naturally creates a feeling of pride and happiness in the minds of the countrymen.

Specifically mentioning the Canadian team, the Prime Minister said that the number of players of Indian origin in this team is high. Team captain Dilpreet Bajwa was born in Gurdaspur, Punjab, while Navneet Dhaliwal and other players are also from Indian background. He said that these players are not only bringing glory to their present country with their performance, but are also spreading the identity of India’s talent and values to the world.
United States team mention
Similarly, the United States team also includes many players who have played domestic cricket in India. Team captain Monank Patel has been a part of Gujarat’s age group teams. Apart from this, players like Harmeet Singh and Milind Kumar are also emerging from the Indian cricket system and making their mark at the international level.
Giving the example of Oman team, the Prime Minister said that there are many players there too, whose roots are linked to India. He said that even in countries like New Zealand, UAE and Italy, players of Indian origin are showcasing their talent and becoming an inspiration for the youth there.
In his address, the Prime Minister said that the specialty of Indianness is that wherever Indians go, they remain connected to their cultural roots and contribute to the development of their workplace. Describing these players as symbols of India’s global identity, he expressed pride in their achievements.
