New details have emerged about the final hours before acclaimed filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead at their Los Angeles home, shedding light on a tense interaction between Rob Reiner and his son, Nick Reinerjust one night earlier.

According to multiple sources who spoke with PEOPLERob Reiner, 78, and his 32-year-old son Nick were involved in a heated argument at a holiday party on Saturday nighthours before the tragic deaths occurred on Sunday, December 14.

The argument reportedly took place at a Christmas party hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien. TMZ was the first outlet to report that the confrontation between father and son was “very loud” and unsettling to guests in attendance. Two independent sources later confirmed the incident to PEOPLE.

One of the sources told PEOPLE, “Nick was freaking everyone out, acting crazy, kept asking people if they were famous.” The behavior reportedly drew attention from several attendees before escalating into an argument with his father.

Following the confrontation, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, 68, allegedly left the party early. There have been no public statements indicating what the argument was about, and authorities have not confirmed whether the incident is directly connected to the events that followed.

On Sunday afternoon, Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead inside their Brentwood home in Los Angeles. Sources previously told PEOPLE that the couple was discovered by their daughter, Romy Reiner. The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed it received a call around 3:30 p.m. local time to provide medical assistance at the residence, where first responders later pronounced the couple deceased.

Nick Reiner was subsequently located by law enforcement and taken into custody. Authorities later arrested and charged him with murder. He is currently being held without bail as the investigation continues.
