What happened when an ‘unemployed’ Muslim boy reached a Catholic girl’s house? Arshad Warsi told a funny story of marriage
Arshad Warsi is one of the few Bollywood actors who has won everyone’s hearts with his comedy and serious acting. Arshad, who made people laugh by playing ‘Circuit’, has played many memorable characters on the big screen. But do you know that in the real life love story of Arshad, who keeps everyone happy in reel life, there was a time when his in-laws and father-in-law got very upset seeing him. Recently, during an interview, Arshad Warsi made many interesting revelations about his early relationships with his wife Maria Goretti and his in-laws.
Arshad told that when Maria’s Catholic parents first came to know about their relationship, they were shocked. However, with the passage of time and growing attachment towards each other, everything gradually fell into place. While talking to ‘The Lallantop’, Arshad shared that the main reason for concern of Maria’s parents was the marriage between different religions. He had never thought of such a life partner for his daughter. He told that Maria’s family is very simple and religious, whose whole world revolves around their religion and faith.
When Maria’s Catholic parents got a big shock
Recalling the initial days of his marriage and the reaction of his in-laws, Arshad said that they were actually a little scared. On one side they had a Catholic daughter and on the other side a Muslim boy. According to Arshad, his in-laws and father-in-law are very respectable people and their life revolves around Jesus Christ. The main reason for their nervousness was that they hoped that Maria would marry a Catholic boy who had a secure job from 9 am to 5 pm. But there was a boy standing in front of him who not only belonged to another religion, but at that time he also did not have a permanent job, that is, he was unemployed.
The journey started with fear, not hatred, now the family lives under one roof.
The actor further said that even during those difficult times, Maria’s parents had the belief somewhere in their mind that Arshad was a good person and would take care of their daughter. With time this trust not only grew stronger but also turned into deep love and affection. Arshad proudly says that his in-laws knew deep down that this boy was a good person and they were confident that he would keep their daughter happy. Gradually they realized that they could not have found a better son-in-law than Arshad. Today the situation is that his in-laws and father-in-law live with him. However, her self-respect prompts her to stay in his own house, but Arshad has lovingly invited her to his side by employing ‘jugaad’.
Filmy love story started from college competition
Arshad also shared the story of his and Maria’s first meeting. Both of them first met at St. Xavier’s College, where Arshad had come as a judge in a competition. Their friendship blossomed when Maria started working with him in theater plays. Gradually this friendship turned into love, but it was not so easy for Arshad to win Maria’s heart. The actor admitted that it took him a lot of hard work and time to convince Maria for marriage as she had said ‘no’ to him several times before saying ‘yes’. Ultimately, both of them got married in the year 1996 and today they are living a happy life with their two children.
