What was the Komagata Maru case?

Komagata Maru was a Japanese ship. In the year 1914, there were about 376 people from India on board this ship. Most of these people were from Sikh, Hindu and Muslim communities. All these people wanted to go to Canada in search of a better life, but they were not given permission to go there. At that time there were some laws in Canada which were against the Indian people. Because of these rules, travelers were stopped from entering the country. The ship was stopped at Vancouver port and people were not allowed to proceed.

Passengers stranded on the ship for two months

The passengers had to stay at sea on the ship for about two months. During this period, there was a severe shortage of food and drink, due to which many people started falling ill. He neither had medicines nor any necessary facilities. The situation became so bad that people became very troubled by hunger and thirst. All this time the local Indian community tried to help him. They also tried to get legal help and raise money, but still the passengers could not get entry into Canada.

20 people injured in police attack

In the end the passengers were forced to send back. When the ship returned to India, the situation there became even worse. A fight broke out between the passengers and the British police in Badag area of ​​West Bengal. During this period, 20 people died and many people were also arrested.
