Mamata Banerjee’s Bengali proposal

Trinamool Congress national president Mamata Banerjee argues that the name ‘West Bengal’ does not fully reflect the state’s culture, civilization, intellectual capacity and Bengali identity. Whereas the name ‘Bangla’ is directly linked to the Bengali language and tradition. In such a situation, Mamata Banerjee’s Bangla proposal is directly linked to the demand to change the official name of the state of West Bengal to Bangla.

Actually, the Trinamool Congress government has been raising the Bangla proposal for a long time. He considered this issue primarily to better reflect the linguistic, cultural and historical identity of Bengal. Mamata Banerjee argues that the name West Bengal does not fully reflect the state’s culture, civilization, intellectual capacity and Bengali identity, whereas the name Bangla is directly linked to the Bengali language and tradition.

Main points and history of ‘Bangla Proposal’

First of all, in the year 2018, the West Bengal Assembly unanimously passed this Bangla resolution. After getting the proposal passed, it was sent to the Modi government at the Centre. This proposal was sent by the then Mamata Banerjee government. Even after this, the Mamta government passed resolutions several times in the Assembly, in which it was said that the name should be kept as ‘Bangla’ in English, Hindi and Bengali.

However, the Central Government has not yet taken any final decision on this proposal. This is the reason why the Bangla proposal is still pending. Mamata Banerjee is attacking BJP and Modi government regarding this attitude of the central government. He has alleged that the Center is adopting an ‘anti-Bengali’ attitude. Also, Mamta has called Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah as anti-Bengali.

Sharp questions from Mamata Banerjee’s center

Recently the Central Government approved the proposal to change the name of Kerala state to ‘Keralam’. After this decision, Mamata Banerjee again attacked the Center and raised the question that Kerala’s demand was immediately accepted, but why is the Bangla proposal being kept pending for years? He said that because of the name ‘West Bengal’ the state always comes last in the alphabetical list and this is discrimination.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced that one day when the power at the Center will change, she will definitely rename Bengal as Bangla. In such a situation, this issue is also very politically heated in the state.
