What is the army’s plan to have three theater commands? This big change will happen for the first time after independence!
New Delhi: The biggest change is going to happen in the Indian Army after independence. Chief of Defense Staff General Anil Chauhan has submitted the final proposal for creating an Integrated Theater Command to Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. This proposal has been prepared after months of discussion with the Chiefs of Army, Navy and Air Force. Once the approval is given, the way of working of the three armies will completely change.
What is Theater Command Plan? Why is it important?
According to media reports, at present the Army conducts separate operations on land, the Navy in the sea and the Air Force in the air. During war, all three have to work together. In the theater command, the entire country will be divided into large parts and a four star officer will be given command of each part.
Under that commander, there will be soldiers, tanks, ships, helicopters and fighter jets of the three armies. This will speed up decisions and command will run from one place. The coordination between the three armies in the war will be tremendous. Let us tell you that CDS General Bipin Rawat had also dreamed of this model.
What is special in the CDS proposal?
Let us tell you that the proposal recommends making theater commanders of four star rank. His rank will be equal to that of the three army chiefs. The weapons and soldiers of the three armies will be under their control in every theatre. Along with this, the post of Vice Chief of Defense Staff will also be created.
The deputy commander in each theater will be from another army so that all three armies get equal space. Some special Air Force weapons will be controlled from Delhi only. If needed, they can be sent immediately to any theatre. This draft has been prepared after years of debate on resources and ranking.
3 big theater commanders will be like this
It is also being told that three main theater commands will be formed in India. The first Western Theater Command will be for the Pakistan Front. It will probably be led by an Air Force officer. The second Northern Theater Command will be for the China border, which will be commanded by an Army officer.
Along with this, the third Maritime Theater Command will look after maritime security and it will be run by a Navy officer. In these three, all three armies will work together. With this, a swift and united response can be given to the threat coming from both China and Pakistan.
What will happen next now?
It is noteworthy that Union Defense Ministry Rajnath Singh will now look into this proposal. Then it will be sent to the Cabinet Committee on Security i.e. CCS. It will be implemented as soon as CCS gets the green signal. Whose information will also be made public.
CDS General Anil Chauhan is going to call the Joint Commanders Conference in the beginning of May 2026. In this, all the top military officers will be given complete information about the new system. The three armies are already preparing for the joint operation.
