What is the significance of Shiva’s Damru mantra? Know the fruits and history
In Hinduism, everything associated with the form of Lord Shiva has its own deep spiritual mystery. It is said that the ‘Damru’ tied on his trident is not just a musical instrument but is the tune of creation and destruction of the universe. According to mythological beliefs, when the universe was created, there was sound in the world but there was no rhythm or rhyme in it. After the appearance of Goddess Saraswati, Lord Shiva played the Damru 14 times, the sound emanating from it gave the gift of music, grammar and ‘Maheshwar Sutra’ to the world.
This Damru is a symbol of Naad Sadhna from which ‘Om’ originated. Religious experts believe that when Lord Shiva performs Tandav in joy, the beat of Damru infuses new energy into nature. At the same time, from the spiritual point of view, the upper and lower part of Damru connects the sky and the underworld, while the middle part is the point from where life begins.

‘Maheshwar Sutra’
The Maheshwara Sutra is a 14-mantra formula derived from the tambourine. It is believed that the echo from the tambourine drives away negative forces. The 14 sounds that came out of Lord Shiva’s tambourine are called ‘Maheshwara Sutra’ These mantras are as follows: Aiun, Rilk, Eong, Aiuch, Hayvart, Lan, Jmangannam, Jhabhn, Ghadhash, Jabgaddash, Khafchththchattav, Kapay, Shashasar, Hal.
Benefits of Damru Mantra
According to the scriptures, these formulas were also used for treatment in ancient times. Regular chanting of this provides many benefits. It is believed that chanting these 14 sutras 11 times after worshiping Shiva helps in curing chronic diseases. People also believe that its continuous chanting is considered effective in reducing the effects of poisonous creatures.
